Earth Day 2023: Celebrating The Art of Our Appreciation

Wrapped in the glory of a gorgeous day, this year Earth Day 2023 was a gift! Our invitation to the Greater Houston community announced that we were giving away trees at St. Charles Street Urban Community Garden & Orchard to honor the earth, promote reforestation and the development of tangible green spaces in our communities.

We gave away garden vegetable starter plants to promote growing your own food and the mindfulness of knowing where your food comes from and is cultivated.

The icing on the “landscape cake” included an art activity of watercolor painting with “celebration and reverence” as our artistic inspiration!

The day was made even better with a spontaneous visit from Jesse Lott, deemed nationally an “Iconic African American Artist” and his more than worthy sidekick (smile) fellow accomplished Artist Kimberly Lakes — and yes, they painted too!

“What a fellowship….” everyone participated and offered many smiles, bursts of laughter and compliments of this unusual celebratory rendition of Earth Day!!! No one, except for our founder Chef Tarsha, had painted with watercolors in years and were surprised at the delightful impact of such a simple expression.

Special thanks to our Community Partners: Trees for Houston, Harlem River Farms, and Community Artists Collective for their support of this event. Special shout out to Eve Brezlin who captured some great candid shots of our founder, community participants and the fun!

We will offer an upcoming workshop schedule featuring “Watercolor Painting in the Garden” this summer. For more information email us at info@ecotoneworld.com
