Our founder joined Service Year Alliance in Washington, D.C. for a three day advocacy campaign intensive to support an expansion of the National Service Program Budget funding national initiatives like AmeriCorp, Job Corp, Peace Corps, Habitat for Humanity, Teach America and Youth Build to name a few. Whether demonstrating in front of the White House or keeping a tight meeting schedule with several State of Texas members of Congress the message was load and clear “Let National Service Soar,” like the majestic bald Eagle once endangered now thriving and secure!

For the past 4 years we’ve welcomed various young adults from around the country who’ve taken up a charter mission to serve the under-served (communities, families, neighborhoods and children). Meet this year’s AmeriCorp Members who have traveled from Seattle, New Jersey, North Carolina and Connecticut to dedicate their hands where their hearts are for a 12 week “tour of duty” in Houston. We couldn’t be happier to benefit from their community service as we continue to push past the hurdles of rebuilding from the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. In turn, we look forward to providing hands-on experience and exposure to the construct and purpose of a community garden located in a real-time urban food desert. And, as always, we will take this opportunity to providing continued mentorship, communication and guidance to these volunteers connecting with a mass of prevailing issues surrounding communities recovering from natural disasters, gentrification and the emergent need for sovereign community development.
