“Summer, Summer, Summertime!” We’re getting Ready for the Summertime and the Summer Cooking Camp Kicking off July 2022!

Chef Tarsha is on-site to speak direct to parents and students about the ECOTONE World educational mission and invite them to sign-up for “Community Kids Cook w/ Chef Tarsha”
Students and their Parents get a chance to select seeds and/or Cucumber starter plants to encourage their interest in “Growing their own food and getting their hands in the dirt!”
The consideration of growing from their own urban patios went over quite well with students interest in the “Community Kids Cook” camp experience!

Connect YMCA 2022 Connect Kids Day Celebration & Summer Camp Signup April 23rd

Connect Kids Day is a FREE FAMILY EVENT and is open to the community. ECOTONE World was on-site with our booth providing information about our summer camp opportunity “Community Kids Cook w/ Chef Tarsha” coming to KIPP Academy in July 2022!

The day was open to parents and their students to preview the content of a variety of camp options (30 outstanding choices in all) and to engage with camp presenters, ask questions and get excited about their summer experiences to come. We are happy to have been invited to bring our week-long cooking camp back to KIPP Academy for a second time and look forward to another great opportunity to convey healthy youth food educational outreach.

“Community Kids Cook w/ Chef Tarsha” is a cooking camp provides hands-on culinary training, interactive lectures, printed resources, engaging field trips and direct contact with industry professionals. Special thanks for our long standing sponsor Botanical Interest their seed donations help us make the connection between growing our own food and have the life-skills needed to prepare fresh health meals!

Let’s Get Cooking! 2019 Community Kid’s Cook w/ Chef Tarsha Tips the Pot to KIPP Connect Community Summer Camp

Twenty-four KIPP Academy students from Southwest Houston joined our Cooking Camp for a “5 Day Cooking Intensive.” Kicking off in July 2019, we took them from safety and sanitation practice; to trekking through their neighbor church’s community garden; to a private restaurant experience and finally preparing a spaghetti luncheon for their family members. So much to learn in five days and such a flavorful experience along the way! Special thanks to Connect Communities 501c3, Chef D. C. Williams -D.C.’s Lil Bit of Cajun, Shannon Teasley-McNichols – SRT Management Services, CCSC Garden, Chef Dominick Lee – Poitin Bar and Kitchen, and Martin Preferred Foods.

Another Summer Sowing Value with Youthful Hands in the Dirt!

The Summer of 2019 marked an important milestone for ECOTONE World and our St. Charles Street Urban Community Garden & Orchard. We celebrated 10 years of sowing seeds of community sustainability; growing fresh organic produce in a food desert, and teaching hundreds of youth to garden in our “outdoor classroom!” This past June we did “the usual”–teach students to garden, use lawn equipment, prune fruit trees, compost and repair fencing through our annual Summer Gardening Camp. What a sense of accomplishment we had at the sight of young people doing positive work outdoors and realizing that this is what ten years of dedication has brought to harvest—good fruit!
